There is a man in California, Jules Dervaes, who "lives off the land". He feeds a family of four, has no job, and lives in a decent house. He's a very frugal guy. People think we will have to learn how to live like this guy when the economy really crashes (which is inevitable if we are to believe people like George Soros and many others). Yes, I do agree the way the world is going right now things could get bad but the real trouble is that when they do people won't suddenly become responsible farmers on some self sustained patch of land. That's delusional. I think it will be more like the movie "The Road", a very fast fall into barbarianism. People are not waking up fast enough to what has to be done. Or if they are aware they do squat. We go on shopping in supermarkets, the prices being the most important factor. We continue to indulge in frivolous air travel and demand fossil fueled vehicles even now that electric cars really are viable. And we continue to eat meat even though if we all became vegetarians many of our problems would be highly diminished. That alone would change things a lot. It would take decades for people to take on the lifestyle of a Jules Dervaes in significant enough numbers for this to be the answer. Last year I took in a talk put on by The Zietgeist Movement at OiSE by a guy a bit like Dervaes but also involved in all the "off the grid" stuff as well. I was impressed with what he had accomplished but I was very surprised at how candid he was in his answers and all the difficulties he had along the way. This was not a promo. It made me realize just how hard it would be for some city bred guy, like myself, to take on something of this sort. Yes, I think things may very well get bad really quick and soon -- and very few of us will be resourceful enough, or smart enough to survive. I just don't have that much faith in humanity -- we're a bunch of lemmings. We all admire the social responsibleness of people like Dervaes, yet we ignore it in our personal lives. In my own research on this subject I think the most significant and easily doable thing we can all do is stop eating meat. And it's not that hard to do. There's a whole lot more about Dervaes HERE
